Man charged for alleged voting offence at Luen On San Tsuen VR Election

A registered voter of the 2007 Village Representative (VR) Election has been charged by the ICAC for allegedly committing a voting offence in the VR election for Luen On San Tsuen in Tuen Mun.
Wong Lo-sang, 57, truck driver, will appear in Tuen Mun Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Friday) on one count of engaging in corrupt conduct with respect to voting an election, contrary to Section 16(1)(a) of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ord inance.
The charge alleges that on January 14, 2007, the defendant had engaged in corrupt conduct at the 2007 Village Representative Election (Resident Representative) for Luen On San Tsuen in that he voted at the election knowing that he was not entitled to do s o.
The defendant is alleged to have made a false declaration that he had been a resident of Luen On San Tsuen for the three years immediately before registering as an elector.
For the 2007 Village Representative (Resident Representative) Election, the Home Affairs Department (HAD) had launched a series of publicity programmes to remind electors that they would not be eligible to vote if they had moved out from their registered residential address at the village.
On the polling day, HAD staff also reminded electors again that if anyone of them had moved out from the village, he or she would be disqualified to vote, and that it would be an offence if the elector voted in the election.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
