Advertising campaign to encourage the public to speak up on graft

2007-11-24

The ICAC today (Saturday) launched a new advertising campaign entitled Dare to Speak to encourage the public to speak up when they come across any suspected corruption.

Comprising TV and radio Announcements of Public Interest (API) as well as posters mounted throughout the territory, the latest advertising campaign highlights the message: "Take action to keep Hong Kong corruption free".

In the first 10 months of this year, of the 2,989 corruption reports received by the ICAC, 73 per cent carried the names and personal particulars of the complainants; and 77 per cent contained sufficient information for further investigation.

"This not only demonstrates that the public places immense trust and confidence in the ICAC, it also shows the importance of public support in reporting corruption," said Principal Education and Mass Communication Officer Vanessa So Cheung Lai-ying.

The new API features three generations of a Hong Kong family. While the grandfather had experienced widespread corruption in the early years, his son witnessed the building of a clean society. The granddaughter has joined the Commission as a graft fight er.
