Kitchen staff charged for bribery over food and grocery supplies

Three kitchen staff of three restaurants and a manager of a food supplying company were today (Wednesday) charged by the ICAC in separate cases for alleged bribery in relation to food and grocery supplies to the restaurants.
In the first case, Yeung Wai-uen, 31, a dim sum supervisor of Sheung Moon Chinese Cuisine, faces six counts of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9 (1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (PBO); while Tam Kwun-sang, 34, a dim sum supe rvisor of Perfect Roasted Goose Seafood Restaurant, faces one similar charge.
Also charged in the same case is Lau Pui-wai, 46, manager of Luen Kee Food Company (Luen Kee). He faces three counts of offering an advantage to an agent under Section 9(2)(a) of PBO.
The trio, currently on ICAC bail, will appear in Tsuen Wan Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Thursday) .
It is alleged that Yeung had accepted a total of $30,800 from a person between June and August 2007 as rewards for placing orders of frozen seafood from Tai Tak Fat Kee Seafood.
Yeung is also alleged of having accepted $5,700 and $6,000 respectively from two staff members of Luen Kee between July and August 2007 for placing orders for groceries.
The remaining charge alleges that between May 1, 2006 and July 31, 2007, Yeung had received a total sum of $7,500 from a person from Hung Fok Company as rewards for ordering soya products from the latter.
Tam is alleged of accepting $3,000 from a person from Luen Kee on August 2, 2007 for placing orders with the latter.
Lau is alleged of offering a total of $10,000 to Yeung on two separate occasions in return for purchase orders with Luen Kee. He is further alleged of offering $3,000 to Tam for a similar reason. The alleged offences took place between July and August i n 2007.
In a separate case, the head chef of Canada Restaurant was charged with two counts of agent accepting an advantage under Section 9(1)(a) of PBO
Siu Lin-hing, 45, will appear before Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am on Friday (January 18), having been granted ICAC bail.
Siu is alleged of having accepted a monthly bribe between $1,500 and $1,700 from the director of Wah Cheong Trading (HK) Company Limited between July 1, 2005 and March 30, 2007, for continuing to place food orders with the latter.
He is further alleged to have accepted from the director $2,000 on April 30, 2007 for a similar reason.
