Trio charged for alleged bribery over food supplies

The ICAC has charged three persons, including a former store supervisor and a head chef of a chained hot pot restaurant, for alleged bribery in relation to food supplies to the restaurant.
The defendants are Chiu Chak-man, 52, a former store supervisor of Little Sheep Hong Kong Holdings Company Limited (Little Sheep); Ma Ka-wo, 37, a head chef of Little Sheep; and Elvy Wong Wing-wah, 43, a tea leaf supplier.
Chiu faces three counts of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (POBO), while Ma is charged with one similar offence. Wong faces one count of offering an advantage to an agent, contrary to Secti on 9(2)(b) of POBO.
The defendants will appear in Kwun Tong Magistracy at 9:30 am on Friday (March 28) for mention.
Two of the charges allege that Chiu had accepted a watch worth $16,380 and a bribe payment of $20,000 from a supplier of beef and seafood in June and August 2007 respectively as a reward for placing purchase orders with the latter.
Chiu is also alleged to have accepted $1,000 from Wong in June 2007 as a reward for placing purchase orders with the latter’s tea company. Wong faces one count of offering $1,000 to Chiu for the same reason.
Ma is alleged to have accepted $5,000 in August 2007 as a reward for placing purchase orders with another seafood supplier.
The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearance on Friday.
