2008-5-25

The ICAC joined hands with seven youth uniform organisations to rally youngsters to help spread positive values such as honesty and righteousness.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of the Youth Integrity Programme today (Sunday), ICAC Commissioner, Mr Timothy Tong Hin-ming, said he hoped young people, as the pillars of our society, could maintain a high degree of honesty and righteousness and be re ady to report corruption.

According to the ICAC annual survey conducted late last year, 82 per cent of young people polled expressed their willingness to report corruption.

In his keynote address, Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose Lee Siu-kwong, said it was important to instil positive values in the younger generation at an early stage so that they could uphold high ethical standards in the future.

Taking an active part in promoting anti-corruption messages, young people had become more ready to report graft than before, Mr Lee added.

The seven other co-organisers of the Youth Integrity Programme were: the Hong Kong Adventure Corps, Scout Association of Hong Kong, Junior Police Call, Civil Aid Service, Hong Kong Sea Cadet Corps, Hong Kong Air Cadet Corps and The Hong Kong Girl Guides A ssociation.

Under the programme, various activities would be organised to promote integrity and self-discipline amongst youth, including visits to the ICAC to learn first-hand about Hong Kong’s anti-corruption work.

More than 1,000 youngsters attended today’s launching ceremony at the Hong Kong International Trade & Exhibition Centre, which was followed by performances of pop artistes including Hins Cheung. At 17 , Jason Chan, Theresa Fu and Kelvin Kwan.
