Two more charged for bribery over renovation contracts of residential buildings

Two more persons were today (Wednesday) charged by the ICAC in connection with an investigation into suspected bribery in obtaining renovation contracts of residential buildings subsidised by the Building Management Incentive Scheme of the Hong Kong Housi ng Society (HKHS).

Kwong Chiu-kiu, 45, director of W.K. Construction Company Limited (W.K. Construction), and Chao Tak-kwong, 38, former shareholder of Prestige Construction and Engineering Co. Ltd., were jointly charged with three counts of conspiracy to offer advantages t o a public servant, contrary to Section 4(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance and Section 159A of the Crimes Ordinance.

The defendants will appear at Tuen Mun Magistracy at 9:30 am on Friday (June 6).

Kwong and Chao were among 31 persons arrested by the ICAC earlier in an operation code-named “Gusty” .

It is alleged that on three occasions between January 2007 and April 2008, Kwong and Chao had conspired to offer advantages to Chu Ka-hang, a Senior Officer of HKHS, as an inducement to or reward for Chu to assist W.K. Construction to obtain renovation co ntracts of Fook Shun Building, Kwan Wah Building and Ho Fat Building in Yuen Long.

The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearance on Friday.
