Duo charged for alleged bribery over food supplies

A former purchasing manager of a hotel and a proprietor of a fresh meat company have been charged by the ICAC for alleged bribery in relation to food supplies to the hotel.

To Yiu-cho, 47, former purchasing manager of Renaissance Kowloon Hotel Hong Kong, faces two counts of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (PBO).

Co-defendant Chong Kam-sing, 35, proprietor of Nin Xing Fresh Meat (Nin Xing), faces one count of offering advantages to an agent, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the PBO.

The defendants will appear in Kowloon City Magistracy at 9:30 am on Thursday (July 24) for transfer to the District Court.

One of the charges alleges that between May 1, 2005 and March 19, 2007, To had accepted over $10,000 every two months from four different suppliers as rewards for placing orders for meat, dried seafood and poultry with them.

To is also alleged to have accepted $2,000 to $3,000 on each occasion from Chong between March 1, 2006 and April 21, 2007 as rewards for placing or continuing placing purchase orders with Nin Xing.

The remaining charge alleges Chong of having offered the said bribe payments to To for the same reason.

The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearance on Thursday.
