Six more charged for alleged bribery over frozen food supplies

Six more chefs of five restaurants and a recreation club have been charged by the ICAC in five separate cases for alleged bribery in relation to the provision of frozen food supplies, following the prosecution of six others late last month.
In the first case, Lai Hing-min, 38, head chef of Que Pasa Tequila Bar & Cantina, and Sin Yiu-ki, 32, head chef of BB’s Bistro, face a total of three counts of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.
One of the charges alleges that between January 2003 and May 2008, Lai had accepted sums of cash from Gordon Chau Yau-yu, a director and shareholder of Candie’s Food Supplies Limited (Candie’s), as rewards for placing or continuing to place purchase orders with Candie’s.
Two other charges allege Sin of accepting a total of about $4,000 from Chau between April and May 2008 for the same reason.
In the second case, Leung Sek-wai, 43, head chef of Joe Bananas, has been charged with three counts of agent accepting an advantage.
The charges allege that Leung had accepted approximately $1,100, $1,200 and sums of money on three separate occasions between June 2007 and April 2008 for the same reason.
In the third case, Fung Ki-leuk, 42, sous chef of D. Diamond, faces one count of agent accepting an advantage.
The charge alleges Fung of having accepted around $1,000 from Chau in March 2008 for the same reason.
In the fourth case, Chow Chi-biu, 40, sous chef of Joia, faces two counts of agent accepting an advantages, which allege him of having accepted sums of money from Chau on two separate occasions between June 2007 and April 2008 for the same reason.
In the last case, Cheung Chi-on, 40, sous chef of United Services Recreation Club, faces one count of agent soliciting an advantage, and one of agent accepting an advantage.
The charges allege Cheung of soliciting $3,000 and accepting $3,000 from Chau in April 2008 for the same reason.
The six defendants, currently on ICAC bail, will appear in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am on Friday (November 7) for plea.
