ICAC video competition attracts 500 young contestants

2009-2-7

About 500 young people took part in a video film competition on the theme of life and wealth organised by the ICAC for the first time.

The winning entries will be used to produce a moral education teaching package for distribution to all secondary schools.

Addressing the award presentation ceremony yesterday (Friday), ICAC’s Director of Community Relations, Ms Julie Mu Fee-man, noted that as the financial market became volatile in recent years, young people should take the opportunity to explore the meaning of wealth and money to their life.

Ms Mu added that it would be rather timely for the ICAC to launch a series of activities in the coming year to foster positive values such as honesty and integrity amongst our young people.

The competition attracted 80 entries from 50 secondary schools and the public. Winning and short-listed entries will be included in a moral education teaching package to be distributed to all secondary schools and uploaded to the ICAC’s Moral Education Website ( www.icac.org.hk/me ).

The competition was sponsored by the Hang Seng Bank and co-organised by the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Hong Kong Subsidized Secondary Schools Council, and the Association of the Heads of Secondary Schools. The Asia T elevision Limited was a supporting organisation.

Joining Ms Mu at the award presentation ceremony were the Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of the Hang Seng Bank, Mr Patrick Chan Kwok-wai, and the Organising Committee Chairman, Mr Kwan Chuk-fai.

The adjudication panel comprised prominent movie directors Sylvia Chang Ai-chia, Peter Chan Ho-sun, Lau Wai-keung and Joe Ma Wai-ho. The panel commended the participants for demonstrating sophisticated skills and presenting clear messages on various life issues.

TWGHs Lee Ching Dea Memorial College’s production “Mystery” won three awards - the Gold Award, the Best Cinematography Award and the Best Editing Award.

The video film depicts a young girl who “sold” her time in return for money, only to regret that she was thus denied the chance of seeing her mother before the latter passed away.

The Silver and Bronze Awards went to Buddhist Wong Fung Ling College and Po Leung Kuk Mrs Ma Kam Ming-Cheung Fook Sien College respectively.
