Director of interior design company charged with bribery over unauthorised works at Marina Cove

A director of an interior design company has been charged by the ICAC with offering $100,000 in bribes to an employee of a property management company in relation to unauthorised building works at Marina Cove, a private residential estate in Sai Kung.

Law Woon-tong, 35, a director-cum-shareholder of MIB Interiors Design Limited (MIB), faces two counts of offering an advantage to an agent, contrary to Section 9(2)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

The defendant will appear in Kwun Tong Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Thursday) for plea.

The charges allege that on two separate occasions in April and November 2008, the defendant offered two sums of $50,000 each to a senior operation assistant of Synergis Management Services Limited (Synergis) as rewards for not reporting unauthorised build ing works in two units at Marina Cove, which were undertaken by MIB.

Synergis was employed by the Incorporated Owners of Marina Cove to provide management services for the residential estate.

The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
