ICAC statement

2009-4-6

In response to media enquiries, an ICAC spokesman today (Monday) said that in light of the reported leakage of information relating to a bank inquiry made by the ICAC, the Commission has conducted an internal investigation into the circumstances and revie wed the relevant information technology (IT) system.

“Following internal inquiries, it is established that the Commission does not possess any soft copy of the document concerned. In 2005, we only received a signed letter from the bank in the form of a hard copy, which was apparently different from the docu ment reportedly leaked on the internet,” the spokesman said.

“Meanwhile, a review of our internal information technology (IT) system also confirms that no FOXY software has been installed within the ICAC’s system.

“The results of our internal review show that the ICAC is not the source of leakage.

“The ICAC is highly concerned about any possible leakage of information relating to its investigative work on the internet.

“We will write to the bank concerned to express our concern over the incident and request the latter to take the appropriate security measures in protecting confidentiality of information,” the spokesman added.

The spokesman further assured the public that the ICAC has in place a stringent IT security system to ensure the confidentiality of information related to its investigative work.
