Property owner and real estate agents face court for bribery over flat sale

An owner of a property and two real estate agents appeared in Shatin Magistracy today (Friday) after being charged by the ICAC with bribery in relation to the transaction of the property worth over $1.5 million.
Chow Siu-wah, 52, an owner of a property in Shatin, pleaded not guilty to one count of offering an advantage to an agent, contrary to Section 9(2)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (POBO).
Co-defendants, Lam Suet-ying and Cheung Chun-fai, both 26, respectively sales manager and former property consultant of Midland Realty International Limited, denied a joint charge of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of POBO.
Magistrate Mr Timothy Casewell adjourned the case to October 12 for trial. Chow and Lam were each granted cash bail of $5,000, while Cheung was on cash bail of $3,000.
Chow was alleged to have offered an extra commission on December 29, 2007 to Lam and Cheung as a reward for procuring a sale and purchase of his flat in Grandeur Garden, Shatin, at a purchase price over $1.55 million. The extra commission was said to amo unt to $15,000.
Lam and Cheung were alleged of having agreed to accept the extra commission for the same reason.
The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Gary Leung.
