Contractor faces court for alleged bribery over renovation works

A renovation contractor appeared in Eastern Magistracy today (Wednesday) after being charged by the ICAC with offering over $210,000 in bribes to a senior marketing manager of a wine distributor in relation to the award of renovation works.

Pun Shing-tak, 43, proprietor of Stardust Design & Contracting Company Limited (Stardust), pleaded not guilty to six counts of offering an advantage to an agent, contrary to Section 9(2)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

Magistrate Ms Bina Chainrai adjourned the case until August 26 for a pre-trial review.

Since 2004, the defendant has been a renovation contractor of Moet Hennessy Diageo Hong Kong Limited (MHD).

MHD, formerly known as Riche Monde Limited, is a local distributor of wines and spirits of various brands.

The charges alleged that between August 2004 and May 2007, the defendant, on six occasions, offered a total of over $210,000 in bribes to a senior marketing manger of MHD.

In return, the senior marketing manager of MHD was said to have awarded to Stardust six renovation jobs at various entertainment establishments where the liquor products of MHD were promoted.

The defendant was granted cash bail of $20,000, and ordered not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Ron Kiong.
