ICAC launches new anti-graft TV drama

A brand new season of the “ICAC Investigators” drama series will hit local TV screens next Saturday as a major anti corruption initiative to mark the 35 th anniversary of the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
The “ICAC Investigators 2009” is the Commission’s latest TV production featuring corruption fighting stories adapted from real cases.
Officiating at the premiere held at the Polytechnic University (PolyU) last evening, Commissioner Dr Timothy Tong Hin-ming noted that the ICAC had engaged acclaimed local movie director Mr Ng See-yuen, who produced and directed Hong Kong’s first anti-corruption movie in 1975, as production consultant for the latest series.
With the full support of the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild, renowned directors Dante Lam, Herman Yau, Lawrence Lau and Raymond Yip filmed four of the five episodes of the drama series. The remaining episode was directed by ICAC’s director Alex Cheung who had won various prestigious awards.
The Commissioner also revealed that the ICAC drama series would soon reach Mainland TV viewers for the first time as the China Central Television (CCTV) had agreed to broadcast the “ICAC Investigators 2007” series.
Officiating guest of honour Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Hong Kong SAR, Mr Huang Lanfa, presented a film copy to a CCTV representative to symbolise the first official screening of ICAC drama production on the Mainland.
Also officiating at the premiere were Dr Norman Leung Nai-pang, executive deputy chairman of the Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) and Mr Ng See-yuen.
Over 1,000 guests including members of ICAC advisory committees, legislators, District Councillors, community leaders and students attended the premiere last night.
At the premiere reception, Legislative Council President Mr Jasper Tsang Yuk-sing and PolyU President Prof. Timothy W. Tong joined the Commissioner for a meeting with a group of outstanding students from secondary schools and universities.
The Commissioner encouraged universities and schools to show “ICAC Investigators” drama on campuses to further spread anti-corruption messages amongst young people.
Jointly produced by the ICAC and TVB, the 2009 series is based on real ICAC cases and shot on locations. The series will be aired on TVB Jade from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on five consecutive Saturdays starting September 26.
The latest series showcases: i) "Rigging the Market" (a listed company manipulating stock prices); ii) " Bogus Householders " (a corruption and fraud case involving urban renewal acquisition); iii) " Crocodile Consultant " (a consultant soliciting bribes in building maintenance contracts); iv) " Calculated Death " (a cross-boundary life insurance scam) and v) " Private Car " (a misconduct in public office case).
The cast includes artistes Miriam Yeung, Andy Hui, Fiona Sit, Chau Pak-ho, Stephanie Cheng, Lam Suet, Maggie Siu, Bowie Lam, Jessica Hesta Hsuan, Raymond Wong, Samuel Chan, Sonija Kwok, Yoyo Mung, Kenny Wong and Louis Yuen.
Meanwhile, " The Making of ICAC Investigators 2009" will be telecast on TVB Jade at 8 pm tomorrow (September 19).
