Concerted efforts urged from all stakeholders in youth moral education

ICAC Commissioner Dr Timothy Tong Hin-ming today (Friday) called on all stakeholders to contribute to the moral education of our young people as strong integrity could see them through life’s challenges.

Speaking at the Seminar on Youth Moral Education, Dr Tong said that today’s world was changing at a faster than ever pace and youngsters should equip themselves with the right attitudes and values so as to be able to deal with the competition and challenges ahead.

The Commissioner said that positive values and attitudes served as the solid foundation, enabling our young people to build a strong integrity inside them.

“We believe that sound moral education among youth is crucial in helping Hong Kong maintain and strengthen its reputation of being a clean society.

“Integrity and ethics form an integral part of the soft power of the Hong Kong Brand and are our youth’s most important asset that they can count on in future,” he told the some 400 teachers, students, parents and academics at the seminar.

The ICAC seminar was co-organised by the Education Bureau, Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) and the Committee on Home-School Co-operation.

Education Commission Chairman Dr Moses Cheng Mo-chi told participants in his keynote speech that moral education could not succeed without a close partnership between families and schools as well as a social environment dedicated to promoting probity.

Also addressing the seminar was HKFYG Executive Director Dr Rosanna Wong Yick-ming, who said that integrity would be the most important tool that young people would like to possess as this important attribute would guide them through many ethical dilemmas in life.

Also speaking at the event were Permanent Secretary for Education Mr Raymond Wong Hung-chiu, Hong Kong Institute of Education Vice-President Professor Lee Wing-on, Guangzhou Sun Yat-Sen University Dean of School of Education Professor Zhong Minhua, Macao Commission Against Corruption Head of Community Relations Ms Tang Shu-qing, veteran moviemaker Mr Michael Hui Koon-man and ICAC Principal Education and Mass Communication Officer Mrs Vanessa So Cheung Lai-ying.
