ICAC statement

In response to media enquiries regarding a newspaper article, an ICAC spokesman today (Sunday) made the following statement:

“The ICAC’s mission is to fight corruption and promote probity through law enforcement, prevention and education without fear or favour, with a view to helping keep Hong Kong fair and clean.

“On law enforcement, the ICAC has the statutory duty to investigate all reports on corruption and related crimes in full accordance with the law. On matters of importance or operational needs, we shall seek legal opinion and consult the Operations Review C ommittee.

“The ICAC is responsible for investigation. Whether a case should be prosecuted is a matter for the Department of Justice to decide. Should a case be brought to the court, the ICAC shall fully cooperate with the Department of Justice.

“The ICAC fully respects Hong Kong’s judicial system and judgments of the Court of Final Appeal.”
