ICAC cub reporters to cover probity building activities

2010-7-7

Some 270 junior secondary students from 54 schools will gain first-hand experience as ICAC’s reporters covering its probity education activities to help promote integrity amongst youngsters in the coming academic year.

The “iTeen Junior Reporters Scheme” aims to widen their scope of moral and civic education, help them build character through integrity and better prepare them for the newly introduced “Other Learning Experiences” part of liberal studies under the school curriculum.

Speaking at the programme launch today (July 7), ICAC Mass Media and Education Sub-committee Convenor Mr Lee Luen-fai encouraged the participants to seize this opportunity to find out how qualities like integrity, professionalism, independent thinking and analytical skills mattered to journalism and youth development.

At a sharing session after the launch, veteran journalists spoke on media ethics and shared with students their experience as journalists. The students will later receive news reporting training and visit a media organisation to learn more about its dail y operations.

The Scheme is co-organised by the Education Bureau, school principals’ organisations as well as youth and media organisations. Participating students will receive their first assignment by covering the awards presentation ceremony of a probity-themed TV commercials competition, jointly organised by the ICAC, Guangdong Prov incial People’s Procuratorate and Commission Against Corruption of Macao for youths in the three places.

iTeen reporters will contribute written or audio-visual reports to their schools’ student papers, TV channels and websites to help promote integrity throughout the next academic year. Outstanding news reports will be uploaded to the ICAC website.
