Ex-couriers charged with deceiving Federal Express

Three former employees of Federal Express (Hong Kong) Limited (FedEx) have been charged by the ICAC in two separate cases for using false documents to deceive courier fees totalling over $556,000 from the company.
In the first case, Victor Fung Hing-wai, 40, former operations coordinator of FedEx, and Alex Lo Ying-kit, 32, former courier of FedEx, face two joint charges of conspiracy of agents to use documents to deceive their principal, contrary to Section 9(3) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (POBO) and Section 159A of the Crimes Ordinance. Lo alone faces another count of similar offence.
Two of the charges allege that between January 2008 and January 2009, Fung and Lo conspired together to understate the weights of parcels in air waybills of FedEx, with intent to defraud FedEx of courier fees.
The remaining charge alleges that between June 2007 and September 2008, Lo conspired with Fung to deceive FedEx using the same method.
As a result, FedEx allegedly suffered losses of over $540,000 in courier fees.
In another case, Lau Chung-on, 33, former courier of FedEx, has been charged with two counts of agent using document with intent to deceive his principal, contrary to Section 9(3) of the POBO.
The charges allege that between October and November 2008, Lau, together with Lo, used five air waybills of FedEx containing understated weights of parcels, with intent to deceive FedEx. As a result, FedEx allegedly suffered a loss of over $16,000 in cou rier fees.
The defendants in the above two cases have been granted ICAC bail, pending their appearance in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (Thursday) for mention.
