Four serving and former employees of Imperial Hotel have been charged by the ICAC for allegedly accepting “tea money” totalling over $40,000 from taxi drivers for referring hotel guests to hire their services.

Kenny Mo Kwai-kwok, 49, and Kwok Siu-kei, 34, both bell and security officers, face two counts and three counts of agent accepting an advantage respectively, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance (POBO). Simon Hui Chun-pang, 31, former security guard, faces a similar offence.

Yip Ying-wai, 33, former assistant front office manager, faces one count of conspiracy to accept advantages, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the POBO and Section 159A of the Crimes Ordinance.

The defendants will appear in Kowloon City Magistracy at 9:30 am on Thursday (July 29) for plea.

Six of the charges allege that Mo, Kwok and Hui accepted from taxi drivers “tea money”, ranging from $100 to $200 a month from each of the drivers, as rewards for referring guests of the hotel to hire the taxi services rendered or arranged by them.

The remaining charge alleges that Yip conspired together with Mo, Kwok, Hui and other persons to accept “tea money” from taxi drivers for the same reason.

The amount of “tea money” allegedly accepted by the four defendants amounted to over $40,000.

The alleged offences took place between 2005 and 2009.

The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearance on Thursday.
