Guangdong - Hong Kong - Macao anti-corruption TV commercial competition for youth

Young people from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao demonstrated strong values and creative talent in the first cross-boundary anti-corruption TV commercial competition which announced its winners today (July 29).

Some 7,000 tertiary and senior secondary students from the three places enrolled in over 1,400 teams in the competition jointly organised by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), Guangdong Provincial People's Procuratorate (GDPP) and the C ommission Against Corruption of Macao (CCAC).

Officiating at the awards presentation ceremony held in Hong Kong today were ICAC Commissioner Dr Timothy Tong Hin-ming, GDPP Chief Procurator Mr Zheng Hong, CCAC Commissioner Dr Fong Man-chong and Hong Kong’s Director of Broadcasting Mr Franklin Wong Wah-kay.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Tong said that the competition signified the launch of a new common platform allowing the three places to share resources for promoting youth probity education.

“The ICAC has long been working very closely with our counterparts in Guangdong and Macao in areas such as mutual case assistance and corruption prevention.

“In view of the increased economic, social and cultural integration of the Pearl River Delta region, a tripartite steering group would be set up to spearhead cross-boundary cooperation in areas of corruption prevention and probity education covering constr uction, the business and government sectors and young people,” he said.

The Commissioner also said that the video production submitted by participants showcased the creativity, liveliness and competitiveness of young people of the Pearl River Delta region and reflected their clear principles and strong stance against corrupti on.

The ICAC would consider adapting some of their production in its future advertising campaign.

GDPP Chief Procurator Mr Zheng Hong said the competition enabled young people from the three places to better understand the latest situation of the fight against corruption through direct involvement in promoting probity.

CCAC Commissioner Dr Fong Man-chong said the success of this competition was a good example of the close cooperation of the three places and hoped the partnership could be extended beyond these regions.

Thirty teams were short listed as finalists by adjudicators from the organising agencies, Radio Television Hong Kong and advertising industry. They were given a four-day exchange tour visiting the three regions.

Regional grand awards went to the Guangdong University of Business Studies, Hong Kong’s SKH Tang Shiu Kin Secondary School and Macao’s Mateus Ricci Colegio. Online voting returned the Guangdong Industry Technical College’s production as most popular and Guangzhou High School of Fine Arts’ most creative.

Other guests at the ceremony included ICAC Citizens Advisory Committee on Community Relations Chairman Professor John Leong Chi-yan, GDPP Deputy Chief Procurator Mr Zheng Xinjian, CCAC Deputy Commissioner Ms Tou Wai-fong, film directors Mr Ng See-yuen and Mr Teddy Chen Tak-sum as well as artistes Kay Tse, Chau Pak-ho, Stephy Tang, Stephanie Cheng and Samuel Chan.

Speaking after the ceremony, Dr Tong said that the first half of the year saw a slight rise in the number of total corruption reports but stressed that corruption remained well under control. The half-year total was 1,751, a seven per cent increase over the same period last year.
