More than 270 junior secondary students from 54 schools took part in the “iTeen Junior Reporters Scheme” organised by the ICAC to engage young people in promoting integrity messages through news reporting projects.
Addressing the awards presentation ceremony last Friday (February 25), ICAC’s Acting Assistant Director of Community Relations, Ms Valentina Chan Kit-wan, noted that the “iTeen Junior Reporters Scheme” was one of ICAC’s new initiatives, using an interactive approach to advance youth education.
“Through actual experience, students could more deeply appreciate the importance of upholding professional ethics and the principle of integrity for journalists to carry out their news reporting work,’ she said.
“With strong ethics and perseverance, young people will be better equipped to meet future challenges when they grow up.”
Mr Lau Chi-kuen, a senior media professional and member of ICAC’s Mass Media and Education Sub-committee representing the adjudication panel praised students for their efforts in driving home positive values through various news reporting assignments.
At the presentation ceremony, students also took part in an experience sharing session moderated by veteran journalist Mr Allan Au Ka-lun.
Under the “iTeen Junior Reporters Scheme” , participants were given basic training on interviewing and reporting techniques for both the print and TV media. Experienced journalists were also invited to share with students the principles of professional ethics.
iTeen reporters had contributed written and audio-visual reports covering ICAC’s Open Day, interactive drama performances in secondary schools, Gee-Dor-Dor Carnival and TV commercials competition, as well as interviews with renowned film director Alex Law, Hong Kong Spirit Ambassador and dedicated volunteers.
A total of 10 awards on best reporting, best feature story, best feature interview, best photo and best filming and editing were presented to participating teams from nine local secondary schools.
Outstanding news reports and photos will be uploaded onto the ICAC’s Moral Education Web ( www.icac.org.hk/me ) for public access.
