Vice-chairman of Peng Chau Rural Committee faces court for allegedly misleading ICAC officer

2011-3-3

A vice-chairman of the Peng Chau Rural Committee (RC) appeared in Eastern Magistracy today (Thursday) after being charged by the ICAC with knowingly misleading an ICAC officer by giving false information in relation to the rental receipts of a property of the Peng Chau RC.

Wong Hoi-yue, 83, pleaded not guilty to one count of knowingly misleading an ICAC officer, contrary to Section 13(B)(b) of the ICAC Ordinance.

Acting Principal Magistrate Amanda Jane Woodcock adjourned the case to April 14 for a pre-trial review and May 16 for a trial. The defendant was granted cash bail of $2,000.

At the time of the alleged offence, the defendant was a vice-chairman of the Peng Chau RC. In February this year, he was re-elected to the same office.

The charge alleged that on March 8 last year, the defendant knowingly misled an ICAC investigator by giving false information that he had not signed any rental receipts in respect of a property in Peng Chau Wing On Street, Peng Chau, on behalf of the Peng Chau RC.

The property of the Peng Chau RC was said to have been rented by a district councillor as his ward office.

The prosecution was today represented by ICAC officer Patrick Tang.
