One more voting member of Jockey Club arrested and charged over membership scam

A voting member of the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) has been arrested and charged by the ICAC for his alleged role in a fraud scam over an application for HKJC racing membership following the prosecution of nine other persons.
David Ho Wai-tak, 69, a medical practitioner, who was arrested and charged last Friday (July 29), faces one count of conspiracy to defraud.
The defendant, currently on ICAC bail, will appear in Eastern Magistracy at 9:30 am on Wednesday (August 3) for transfer to the District Court.
The case arose from a corruption complaint. Subsequent ICAC enquiries revealed the above alleged offence.
The charge alleges that between January and March 2009, the defendant, Stanley Lawrence Freedman and another person conspired together to defraud HKJC by falsely stating that the information in an applicant’s racing membership application form was true.
They were alleged to have provided false information on their acquaintance with the applicant, their respective length of acquaintance and nature of relationship with him, as well as the qualities possessed by him or the reasons for supporting him to beco me a racing member of HKJC.
The eight other defendants, facing a total of 10 bribery and other charges for their alleged roles in the HKJC membership application fraud scam, were Freedman, John Douglas Mackie, both honorary voting members of HKJC; Dipo Chandiram Sani, voting member of HKJC; Robert Ng Ka-ki, Tong Kam-pui, Ho Wai-shek, all members of HKJC; Lam Wai-chee and Tang Kang-chung. They will take plea at the District Court on August 16.
The remaining defendant, Chan Wing-fai, was charged by the ICAC with one count of conspiracy to defraud in relation to his application for HKJC racing membership in another case. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and will be tried at Eastern Magistracy on October 10.
HKJC had rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.
