Woman charged with misleading ICAC over false accusation against C&E officer

A woman has been charged by the ICAC for allegedly misleading its officer by making a false accusation against an officer of the Customs and Excise Department (C&E), alleging the C&E officer of accepting bribes from the proprietor of a pirated disc shop.
Lam Yuen-na, 58, who was charged yesterday (August 24), faces one count of knowingly misleading an ICAC officer, contrary to Section 13B(b) of the ICAC Ordinance.
The defendant will appear in Kowloon City Magistracy at 9:30 am tomorrow (August 26) for plea.
The charge alleges that on February 2, 2011, the defendant knowingly misled an ICAC officer by making a false statement or accusation against a C&E officer.
The defendant was alleged to have falsely accused the C&E officer of accepting an unspecified amount of money from a man, who was said to be the proprietor of a pirated disc shop in Shamshuipo.
C&E had rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending her court appearance tomorrow.
