2012-3-28
The ICAC today (Wednesday) announces that a decision has been taken to extend the service of Mr Daniel LI Ming-chak, Deputy Commissioner and Head of Operations, from 18 April 2012 to 31 July 2012.
The above decision has been taken independently by Mr Stephen LAM, Chief Secretary for Administration, acting on the power delegated to him by the Chief Executive. The Commission has been informed that the power to appoint a Deputy Commissioner of the In dependent Commission Against Corruption was delegated by the Chief Executive to the Chief Secretary for Administration on 8 March 2012.
Section 6 of the ICAC Ordinance provides for the Chief Executive to appoint a Deputy Commissioner of the ICAC. Section 63 of the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance enables the Chief Executive to delegate such power of appointment to an officer designated by him.
Mr Daniel LI reached his retirement age in December 2011. At the time the Chief Executive extended Mr LI’s service until 17 April 2012 on grounds of operational need. The further extension presently announced also accords with the Commission’s operational need and the arrangement is agreeable to Mr LI.
