Youngsters from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao demonstrated their creative talents and support to anti-graft work in the Cross-boundary Anti-corruption Computer Animation / Comics Competition which was concluded yesterday (July 28) in Guangzhou.

Some 3,700 young people from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao submitted over 3,100 entries to the competition jointly organised by the Hong Kong Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), Guangdong Provincial People’s Procuratorate (GDPP) and the Commission Against Corruption of Macao (CCAC).

Officiating at the awards presentation ceremony were ICAC Commissioner Mr Peh Yun-lu, GDPP Chief Procurator Mr Zheng Hong and CCAC Commissioner Dr Fong Man-chong.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Peh said the competition encouraged young people to illustrate the concept of probity with a fresh approach through computer animations and comics.

“The entries showcased the creativity, liveliness and competitiveness of young people of the Pearl River Delta region, and reflected their intolerance of corruption,” he said.

“Participants from the three places also share a common belief - integrity is a pivotal core value for a society. This shows the trust they bestowed on the work of their respective anti-graft agencies,” Mr Peh added.

The competition was a continuation of cooperation among the three agencies, which jointly hosted the Cross-boundary Anti-corruption TV Commercial Competition back in 2009. Mr Peh urged young people to continue with their good work with a creative mind an d build a corruption-free society.

The finalists were short listed by adjudicators from the organising agencies as well as prominent figures from the animation and comic industry, such as Hong Kong comic artist Mr Jeffrey Lau Wan-kit. They also participated in a two-day exchange tour to Guangdong, including a visit to the anti-graft institution in Panyu.

The competition comprised three categories: secondary students, tertiary students, and an open category. Participants from Hong Kong garnered three gold awards. The most popular entries and the most creative entries were voted online.
