In response to media enquiries, an ICAC spokesman today (Monday) confirmed that a total of 16 persons, including two Police Sergeants and a Police Constable, have been arrested by the ICAC in an operation commencing last Friday (July 27) for alleged corru ption for harbouring suspected vice establishments and illegal gambling activities in Yaumatei.
Also arrested in an operation code-named “Sky Wave” were seven proprietors or operators and a staff member of three suspected vice and illegal gambling establishments in Yaumatei, as well as five gamblers.
The ICAC investigation arose from a corruption complaint.
The three police officers are alleged to have accepted advantages from the said proprietors or operators for protecting their vice and gambling activities at the said establishments.
The Police have rendered full assistance to the ICAC in its investigation.
The arrestees have been released on ICAC bail.
Enquiries are continuing.
