ICAC chief visits Beijing to foster closer cooperation in anti-graft work

ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu today (Thursday) visited officials of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) and Ministry of Supervision (MoS) in Beijing to exchange views on the latest development in anti-corruption work in the two places.

The ICAC chief called on Ms Ma Wen, Minister of Supervision and Mr Cao Jianming, Procurator General of SPP respectively to explore opportunities for further exchanges and collaboration between the ICAC and the two authorities.

Since 2008, the ICAC, the MoS and the Commission Against Corruption of Macao have co-organised seminars on an annual basis to share preventive experience in different sectors, including corruption prevention in the construction industry, corporate governa nce in the financial sector and integrity management in civil service.

The ICAC and Mainland procuratorate authorities have also established the Mutual Case Assistance Scheme since 1988 to enable mutual assistance in interviewing witnesses in each other’s jurisdiction. The scheme has proved to be effective in combating cross-boundary corruption cases.

During his stay in Beijing, Mr Peh will also visit the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, as well as Mainland academics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences to exchange views on anti-corruption initiatives.

ICAC officials accompanying Mr Peh on his visit include Ms Julie Mu Fee-man, Director of Community Relations; Mr Ng Ping-kwok, Principal Investigator of the Operations Department; Mr Siu Kin-foon, Principal Corruption Prevention Officer of the Corruption Prevention Department and Ms Evalina Yim Hau-wan, Principal Youth and Education Officer of the Community Relations Department.

The delegation will conclude its visit and return to Hong Kong on Saturday (September 15).
