ICAC chief attends international conference to share experience in graft fight

An ICAC delegation, led by Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu, will attend the Sixth Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, tomorrow (October 4).

The four-day conference, hosted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, gathers together experts from around the world to share experience on various anti-graft issues under the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), including corrupti on prevention, technical assistance, information exchange and recovery of ill-gotten assets.

Mr Peh will attend the IAACA Executive Committee meeting tomorrow and will address participants of the conference this Friday at a plenary session on “ The Need for Intelligence –'96 Led Policing in the Investigation and Prevention of Corrupt Practices ”.

ICAC Officers attending the conference include: Ms Julie Mu Fee-man, Director of Community Relations; Mr Raymond So Wing-keung, Assistant Director of Operations; Mr Ng Hung-cheung, Principal Corruption Prevention Officer; and Ms Evalina Yim Hau-wan, Princ ipal Youth Education Officer.

Mr So will speak at a workshop on private and public sector investigations, while Mr Ng and Ms Yim will serve as rapporteurs at the conference.

The Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abd Razak, and President of IAACA and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, Professor Cao Jianming, will address over 400 delegates from about 100 jurisdictions and international organisations at tomorrow’s opening ceremony.

The IAACA is an independent organisation set up to promote the effective implementation of the UNCAC amongst signatories and to strengthen international cooperation in fighting and preventing corruption.

It comprises over 300 members from anti-corruption agencies and non-governmental organisations worldwide. Hong Kong’s ICAC has joined the IAACA as an organisational member since 2007.
