ICAC statement
2013-4-19
In response to media enquiries, an ICAC spokesperson today (Friday) confirmed that a total of 36 persons, including four Chinese medicine practitioners (CMPs), were arrested for alleged corruption in relation to the issuance of false sick leave certificates.
In an operation codenamed “Sentosa” , which commenced on Wednesday (April 17), three middlemen, 21 part-time and full-time staff members of a public body, seven staff members of two government departments and an employee of a private company were also arrested.
The investigation arose from a corruption complaint.
Subsequent enquiries revealed that the arrested CMPs had corruptly sold false sick leave certificates at $30 to $80 each to other arrestees. One of the CMPs was also alleged to have sold the false sick leave certificates to his “customers” through the middlemen.
All the arrestees have been released on ICAC bail. While enquiries are continuing, no further comments will be made at this stage.
