ICAC chief meets top US officials for anti-corruption exchanges

ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu today (Friday, HK time) departed for Panama City after concluding his visit in the United States (US) where fruitful exchanges on anti-corruption issues were held with the country’s law enforcement agencies, justice department and government bodies as well as international organisations based in the US.
During his visit in the New York City, Mr Peh was welcomed by Mayor Mr Michael R. Bloomberg, and called on Ms Rose Gill Hearn, Commissioner of New York City Department of Investigation responsible for corruption investigation.
The Commissioner also held meetings with Mr James Cole, Deputy Attorney General of the Department of Justice; Mr Sean M. Joyce, Deputy Director of the Federal Investigation Bureau, and other US senior government officials from the Department of State and the US Office of Government Ethics.
Mr Peh also called on senior executives of international organisations including the World Bank, the United Nations Global Compact, and the World Justice Project to update the latter on Hong Kong’s latest efforts in fostering a clean society and a fair business environment.
The ICAC Commissioner will depart for Panama City in the Republic of Panama to attend the seventh Annual Conference and General Meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities. Mr Peh will share Hong Kong’s effective strategy and experience in combating corruption at a plenary session on “Rule of Law, Anti-Corruption Work and an Independent Judiciary”.
Accompanying Mr Peh are ICAC’s Director of Community Relations, Ms Julie Mu Fee-man, and the Chief Staff Officer of the Centre of Anti Corruption Studies, Mr Daniel So Ping-hung. Ms Mu will address a workshop at the Conference on “anti-corruption agencies in a changing world: independence, accountability and transparency”.
