New ICAC TV drama showcases four-decade anti-graft mission

The “ ICAC Investigators 2014 ” drama series, based on real past cases, was premiered at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre last night showing an episode that highlighted the challenges faced by a young investigator and succession in the continued fight against corruption.

The new season of drama series, jointly produced by the ICAC and the Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), will hit the screen next Saturday (April 5).

As an educational activity under the ICAC’s 40th Anniversary publicity programme, the premiere was the first ever collaboration between the Commission and the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society (HKIFFS).

About 900 guests, including members of the ICAC advisory committees, community and business leaders, representatives from government departments and public organisations, as well as ICAC Ambassadors and ICAC Club members etc, attended the event.

In his welcoming remarks at the premiere, ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu said the Commission had been producing TV drama since its early days to promote the anti-corruption message. The series were well received and proved to be an effective means to educate the public against the evils of corruption.

The current series, now in its 15th season, has been produced to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Commission. Each episode has been extended from 60 minutes to 90 minutes, to illustrate the changing nature of corruption cases and the evolution of anti-co rruption work in the last four decades, with cinematic effect enhanced.

“Apart from featuring major corruption cases, the new series include an episode, ‘'91 Better Tomorrow ’, which highlights the perseverance and professionalism of ICAC investigators in handling corruption cases which impacted people’s daily life.

“Featuring a veteran investigator sharing his experience with a young officer, it also shows the importance of succession in continuing the anti-graft mission,” Mr Peh said.

In addition, HKIFFS will hold a series of public screenings of some classic ICAC drama productions for both local and overseas filmmakers and audience to revisit the journey that Hong Kong went through in fighting corruption.

Also officiating at the premiere last night were Board Member of HKIFFS Jack So Chak-kwong, and Assistant General Manager of TVB Peter Au Wai-lam.

The new ICAC drama series will be broadcast on TVB Jade and HD Jade at 9:30 p.m. on five consecutive Saturdays starting from April 5. Meanwhile, “ The Making of ICAC Investigators 2014 ” will be telecast on TVB Jade and HD Jade at 9:30 p.m. this Saturday (March 29).

The latest series showcases: i) “ Better Tomorrow ” (A course of struggle of a novice ICAC investigator); ii) “ Web of Greed ” (corruption case in the construction sector); iii) “ Money Mind ” (corruption and fraud case involving a listed company); iv) “ Goal Tricks ” (match-fixing involving young footballers); v) “ Partner ” (ICAC’s probe in syndicated police corruption in 1990s and the close working partnership between the two law enforcement agencies nowadays).

“ ICAC Investigators 2014 ” are directed by renowned film directors Dante Lam Chiu-yin, Adam Wong Sau-ping, Herman Yau Lai-to, Terry Tong Kei-ming, Teddy Robin and ICAC’s senior producer Alex Cheung Kwok-ming.

The cast includes Liu Kai-chi, Gardner Tse, Lawrence Cheng, Ruco Chan, Eddie Kwan, Kenny Wong, Vincent Wong, Raymond Wong, Joyce Tang, Alice Chan, Shirley Yeung, Cheung Kwok-keung, Sire Ma and Venus Wong.
