2014-8-1

A man was brought to the Eastern Magistracy today (Friday) after being charged by the ICAC for allegedly possessing a false ICAC warrant card.

Wang Xiao, 23, financial analyst, who was charged yesterday (Thursday), faced one count of possessing a false instrument, contrary to Section 75(2) of the Crimes Ordinance.

No plea was taken. Principal Magistrate Ms Bina Chainrai adjourned the case to September 4 this year, pending ICAC further enquiries.

The case arose from a referral from the Police. Subsequent ICAC enquiries uncovered the above alleged offence.

The charge alleged that on February 13 this year, the defendant, without lawful authority or excuse, had in his custody or under his control an ICAC warrant card, which he knew or believed to be false.

The defendant was granted cash bail of $20,000. He was also ordered to surrender all travel documents, not to leave Hong Kong, and report to the Police once a week.

The Police had rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.

The prosecution was today represented by Acting Senior Public Prosecutor Jonathan Lin, assisted by ICAC officer Ken Wong.
