ICAC chief visits South Eastern Europe to foster anti-graft ties on Belt and Road

An ICAC delegation led by Commissioner Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu today (July 15) commenced an official visit to South Eastern European countries along the Belt and Road route, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria, to share Hong Kong’s anti-graft experience and to explore their needs in capacity building.
The official visit will start from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the delegation will visit the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption and the Coordination of the Fight Against Corruption, the State Investigation and Protection Agency. The delegation will also call on the Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative, an intergovernmental organisation to help curb corruption in South Eastern Europe.
On Wednesday (July 17), the delegation will head for Belgrade, Serbia to visit the Anti-Corruption Department of Ministry of Interior and the Republic Public Prosecutors Office. The delegation will also meet senior representatives of the Anti-Corruption Council and the Anti-Corruption Agency in Serbia.
Meanwhile, an ICAC training team travelling with the delegation will conduct a capacity building training for the Anti-Corruption Agency in Serbia.
The delegation will depart for Bucharest, Romania on Saturday (July 20) to visit national anti-graft organisations, including the National Anti-Corruption Directorate, the National Integrity Agency as well as the Anti-Corruption General Directorate.
During the trip, Mr Peh will also call on local offices of Transparency International, the Berlin-based anti-corruption organisation. He will also take the opportunities to meet the Ambassadors or senior officials of the Chinese Embassies in the three countries.
Mr Peh will depart for Hong Kong next Wednesday (July 24) while other members of the delegation will travel to Sofia, Bulgaria for a two-day study visit before returning to Hong Kong on Saturday (July 27).
While in Bulgaria, the delegation will visit the Commission for Anti-Corruption and Illegal Assets Forfeiture, the Ministry of Interior, the Regional Administration of Sofia region, Transparency International Bulgaria as well as the Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria.
ICAC officers accompanying Mr Peh on the South Eastern Europe trip include Ms Sally Kwan Yee-lan, Secretary to Commission Against Corruption; Mr Lawrence Chung Wan-hon, Principal International Liaison and Training Officer; Mr Allen Leung Wing-hang, Chief International Liaison and Training Officer and two Senior International Liaison and Training Officers Mr Chan Chun-man and Crystal Lee Ngan-yan.
