2019-9-18
A buyer has been charged by the ICAC today (September 18) with offering a bribe of $20,000 to a property agent for negotiating a lower purchase price in the transaction of a property at a selling price of $27 million.
Wong Sai-king KK, 53, proprietor of an engineering company, faces one count of offering an advantage to an agent, contrary to Section 9(2)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.
The defendant will appear at the Kowloon City Magistracy on Friday (September 20) for plea.
At the material time, the defendant was a client of Midland Realty International Limited (Midland Realty), looking for a flat at a private estate in West Kowloon. A property, including a car parking space, at a selling price of $27 million was identified for the defendant. The defendant eventually purchased the property at $26.88 million.
The charge alleges that on or about July 28, 2018, the defendant, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, offered $20,000 to a property agent employed by Midland Realty, as an inducement to or reward for the property agent to negotiate a lower purchase price of the property, and procure the sale and purchase of the property.
Midland Realty has rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation into the case.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending her court appearance on Friday.
