ICAC chief visits Switzerland and Japan to foster anti-graft collaboration

ICAC Commissioner Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu today (October 24) commences an official visit covering Basel and Geneva, Switzerland as well as Tokyo, Japan, where he will carry out his duty as Convenor of the Training Committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) and foster international cooperation in the fight against corruption.
Today in Basel, Switzerland, Mr Peh will take the opportunity to meet Ms Gretta Fenner, Managing Director of Basel Institute on Governance, to exchange anti-graft initiatives and explore collaboration on training and capacity building.
Following the meeting, Mr Peh will travel to Geneva where he will chair the IAACA’s third Training Committee meeting and attend its Executive Committee meeting to be held on Friday (October 25).
Mr Peh will also brief committee members the results of the IAACA-ICAC Joint Training Programme held earlier this year in Hong Kong, with a view to mapping out future training initiatives for IAACA members.
The IAACA, of which the Hong Kong ICAC has been a member since 2007, is a non-governmental international organisation set up to promote co-operation in worldwide anti-corruption issues and foster the effective implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). Mr Peh is currently an Executive Member of IAACA and Convenor of its Training Committee.
After concluding his visit in Switzerland, Mr Peh will depart for Tokyo, Japan on Saturday (October 26).
While in Tokyo, Mr Peh will hold a bilateral meeting with Mr Takeshi Seto, Director of United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI), and speak at the UNAFEI UNCAC Training Programme. Senior ICAC officers will also share Hong Kong’s graft-fighting and preventive education strategies in the programme.
Mr Peh’s visit to Switzerland will be accompanied by Ms Sally Kwan Yee-lan, Secretary to Commission Against Corruption; Mr Lawrence Chung Wan-hon, Principal International Liaison and Training Officer; and Mr Joe Tam Kwok-chu, Senior International Liaison and Training Officer.
Mr David Williams, Principal Investigator of the Operations Department; and Ms Lily Chung Lai-tuen, Executive Director of Hong Kong Business Ethics Development Centre of the ICAC, will join the delegation in Tokyo, Japan. The delegation will return to Hong Kong next Tuesday (October 29).
