Ex-IO chairlady charged with bribery over property management service

A former chairlady of the incorporated owners (IO) of a private residential estate has been charged by the ICAC today (Tuesday) with soliciting an employment from a property management company in relation to the supervision of its service at the estate.

Cheng Pik-yuk, 65, former chairlady of the IO of Yee Fung Garden (YFG), faces one count of agent soliciting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(b) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

The defendant will appear at the Tuen Mun Magistracy on Thursday (April 23) for plea.

At the material time, the defendant was the IO chairlady of YFG, a private residential estate in Yuen Long. Memfus Wong Surveyor (Property Management) Limited (MWS) was contracted to provide YFG with property management service.

The charge alleges that between March 4 and April 9, 2014, the defendant solicited an employment at MWS from its senior estate manager as a reward for showing favour to MWS in relation to her supervision of the work of MWS during the provision of property management service to the IO of YFG.

The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending her court appearance on Thursday.
