2019-12-16
An ICAC delegation led by Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu is in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates today (December 16) to attend the Eighth Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and host a special event to introduce to participants Hong Kong’s time-tested anti-graft strategy.
Joining the Chinese delegation, Mr Peh and the ICAC delegation will attend conference programmes and special events covering corruption prevention, asset recovery and international cooperation today and in the next two days.
The ICAC delegation will host one of the special events today, to be opened by Mr Hu Bin, Counsellor, Permanent Mission of the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Vienna.
The special session, themed “Effective Control of Corruption through Systemic Prevention and Public Engagement: The Approach of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China”, features Hong Kong’s holistic and effective anti-corruption strategy with conference participants.
During the session, Ms Sally Kwan Yee-lan, ICAC’s Secretary to Commission Against Corruption, will share with conference participants Hong Kong’s three-pronged anti-corruption strategy and corruption prevention initiatives through good governance and systemic risk management. Mr Lawrence Chung Wan-hon, Principal International Liaison and Training Officer, will introduce ICAC’s “Ethics for All” approach for public engagement in the anti-graft cause.
The UNCAC is the only legally binding universal anti-corruption instrument. Under the UNCAC, the ICAC has been designated by the Central People’s Government as the agency in Hong Kong to assist other state parties to formulate measures and to implement the obligations under the Convention, including the pledge for international cooperation in the fight against and prevention of corruption.
Other officers of the ICAC delegation include Ms Mandy Lee Man-yu, Chief International Liaison and Training Officer and Mr Jerome Fan Yat-man, Senior International Liaison and Training Officer. The delegation will return to Hong Kong on Thursday (December 19).
