2020-1-7

Two former employees of a tea leaf products wholesaler have been charged by the ICAC today (January 7) with stealing over $60,000 and 240 packs of Pu’er tea from the company.

Ng Chun-wah, 71, former manager of Tung Wing Tea Products Company Limited (Tung Wing); and his wife Chiu San-man, 47, former clerk of Tung Wing, face two joint charges of theft, contrary to Section 9 of the Theft Ordinance. They each further faces one count of theft.

The defendants will appear at the Eastern Magistracy on Thursday (January 9) for plea.

The case arose from a corruption complaint. Subsequent ICAC enquiries revealed the above alleged offences.

Tung Wing is a wholesaler of tea leaf products. At the material time, Ng and Chiu were respectively the manager and clerk of Tung Wing. Ng was also one of the authorised signatories of a bank account of Tung Wing.

The two joint charges allege that on March 1, 2016, the duo stole a total of 240 packs of Pu’er tea from Tung Wing.

Another charge alleges that Ng stole a debt of over $2,800 owed by a bank to Tung Wing on June 10, 2016, while the remaining charge alleges that Chiu stole over $58,000 from Tung Wing between August 3 and December 29, 2016.

Tung Wing has rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation into the case.

The defendants have been released on ICAC bail, pending their court appearance on Thursday.
