Ex-employee of sports cars distributor charged with taking ‘tea money’ from customer

2020-1-10

A former employee of a sports cars distributor has been charged by the ICAC today (January 10) with accepting “tea money” of $1,000 from a customer for repairing her sports car after a traffic accident.

Wan Chun-ip, 47, former service supervisor of Jebsen Motors Limited (Jebsen Motors), faces one count of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.

The defendant will appear at the Tuen Mun Magistracy next Tuesday (January 14) for plea.

Jebsen Motors is a sports cars distributor. At the material time, the defendant was a service supervisor of Jebsen Motors posted to a centre which provided after-sale service, including repair and maintenance service to customers.

In February 2019, a sports car of a customer was sent to the centre for repair after a traffic accident.

The charge alleges that on March 29, 2019, the defendant, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse, accepted $1,000 from the customer as an inducement to or reward for handling the repair and replacement of vehicle parts of her sports car.

Jebsen Motors has rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation.

The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance next Tuesday.
