Merchant charged with criminal intimidation

A merchant, who was involved in a monetary dispute with another man, was charged by the ICAC yesterday (May 27) for criminally intimidating the latter, who was a prosecution witness in an ICAC case.

Ming Yuk-lam, 42, faces one count of criminal intimidation, contrary to Section 24(a)(i) of the Crimes Ordinance.

The defendant will appear at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow (May 29) for plea.

In about February 2018, the defendant could not locate a man after having a monetary dispute with him. On May 25, 2019, the defendant was told that the man would appear at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts two days later.

The charge alleges that on May 27, 2019, the defendant threatened the aforesaid man with injury to his person, with intent to alarm him.

The aforesaid man attended the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts on May 27, 2019 as a prosecution witness at the trial of an ICAC case in relation to salary fraud involving a property agent.

The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance tomorrow.
