Logistics company manager charged with bribery over service outsourcing
2020-6-8
A manager of a logistics company has been charged by the ICAC today (June 8) with accepting illegal rebates totalling $9,800 from a then part-time staff member of the company in relation to outsourcing of goods packaging and labelling work.
Benny Cho Kim-wai, 47, warehouse manager of Sage Dynasty Limited (Sage Dynasty), faces three counts of agent accepting an advantage, contrary to Section 9(1)(a) of the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance.
The defendant will appear at the Tuen Mun Magistrates’ Courts on Wednesday (June 10) for plea.
At the material time, the defendant was the warehouse manager of Sage Dynasty, a logistics company which offered goods delivery, warehousing and storage services. The defendant was responsible for supervising the operation of a warehouse in Yuen Long for goods storage, packaging and labelling.
In early October 2017, Sage Dynasty decided to outsource its goods labelling work to two sisters, who were part-time warehouse keepers under the defendant’s supervision. The defendant was entrusted to negotiate the service fees with the duo.
The charges allege that on three occasions between November 1, 2017 and February 7, 2018, the defendant accepted illegal rebates totalling $9,800 from the younger sister as an inducement to or reward for outsourcing Sage Dynasty’s goods packaging and labelling work to the two sisters.
It is alleged that goods packaging and labelling work worth totalling over $123,000 were outsourced to the two sisters.
Sage Dynasty has rendered full assistance to the ICAC during its investigation into the case.
The defendant has been released on ICAC bail, pending his court appearance on Wednesday.
