2015-5-19
ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu today (Tuesday) commenced his duty visit to three renowned international ranking institutions in the United States (US) and Germany to update them the latest probity situation of Hong Kong.
In the US, Mr Peh will call on RAND Corporation and TRACE International in Arlington County. During the meeting, Mr Peh will brief senior management of the organisations on Hong Kong’s latest anti-corruption initiatives.
RAND Corporation is a leading international think-tank specialising on public administration research and developing solutions, while TRACE International is a global anti-corruption consultancy which provides bribery risk assessment to multi-national companies.
The 2014 “Trace Matrix”, developed by RAND Corporation and TRACE International to assess global corruption risks, ranked Hong Kong the 4th least corrupt place in 197 economies around the world, and the least corrupt in Asia.
Mr Peh will then visit the Heritage Foundation in Washington DC, where he will meet research experts of the organisation to introduce Hong Kong’s latest efforts in sustaining probity and a corruption free society.
The Heritage Foundation is a public policy research institute which releases the yearly Index of Economic Freedom. In 2015, Hong Kong was ranked the freest economy for the 21st consecutive years amongst 178 economies assessed.
The Commissioner will depart for Berlin, Germany on Saturday to call on Transparency International (TI) early next week.
Mr Peh will meet TI’s Deputy Managing Director Mr Miklos Marschall and Research Coordinator Mr Santhosh Srinivasan to brief them on Hong Kong’s latest anti-corruption efforts and probity situation.
The TI is a non-governmental organisation that monitors corruption in international development and conducts research on corruption issues worldwide.
ICAC officers accompanying Mr Peh during the visit include Mr Daniel So Ping-hung, Chief Staff Officer of the Centre of Anti-Corruption Studies, and a research officer of the centre. They will return to Hong Kong next Friday (May 29).
