Engaging the community

To mark its 45th anniversary, the ICAC has launched a series of events to commemorate this special occasion. On February 15 this year – the founding day of the ICAC – an anniversary reception was held at the ICAC Building. The gathering was attended by over 700 ICAC staff members and about 50 guests, including retired officers, as well as former and incumbent chairmen and members of ICAC’s advisory committees.

“On this day 45 years ago, Hong Kong did not only witness the birth of an independent and dedicated anti-corruption organisation, but also the beginning of a new era,” said ICAC Commissioner Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu.

Mr Peh also thanked all former and serving graft fighters for their commitment, relentless efforts and professionalism.

Opening up to the public

This year, the Commission also opened up its major facilities to the public on two consecutive weekends between late February and early March. About 4,500 citizens took the opportunities to learn first-hand Hong Kong’s anti-corruption history and achievements. They were given guided tours at the ICAC Building for visits to the Detention Centre, the Exhibition Hall, mock Video Interview Rooms, Identification Parade Suite, firearms display and game booths.

The public also got a rare chance to taste the ICAC’s iconic drink – the ICAC coffee, as free coffee-sharing activities were staged at prime locations in Tsim Sha Tsui and Causeway Bay in January this year. Free coffee and souvenirs were distributed to thousands of citizens.

Meanwhile, three trams bearing the tagline and design of the ICAC 45th anniversary programme ran through prime districts on Hong Kong Island in February, with free coffee distributed to the public on ICAC’s founding day.

Signature TV drama series

Over the years, ICAC’s television drama has become a signature product for disseminating probity messages to the public. This year a new season of the “ICAC Investigators 2019” drama series, co-produced by Television Broadcasts Ltd, will be broadcast on both the terrestrial television and various online platforms in starting from March 30, 2019.

The five episodes will respectively showcase corruption cases involving senior government officials, catering industry, student admission and car testing – all of which have been adopted from real ICAC cases.

For online activities, senior ICAC officers and representatives from different strata of the community joined the 45-day countdown project on the ICAC Facebook fan page. They shared their views on upholding integrity and delivered congratulatory messages to the ICAC.
