Engaging young generations in integrity education

Story-telling is not only important in increasing engagement with young children, it can also help introduce values and principles which will set a child’s moral compass that may see him through into his adult life.

Promoting the value of integrity to young generations has always been a top priority for the ICAC. In a bid to effectively engage them, the Commission has earlier produced four picture books to introduce positive values such as honesty, fairness and responsibility, all weaving through adventurous stories and beautiful illustrations.

Picture books to disseminate positive values

To reach our target audience, the ICAC took the four picture books to the local annual signature event, the Hong Kong Book Fair 2021, and shared with young children and their parents the importance of upholding positive values.

This year, the ICAC’s exhibition booth, combining the themes of “Reading for Integrity” and a clean community, featured a bakery and cartoon characters illustrated in the Commission’s four picture books.

Children and their parents enjoyed a story-telling session on a Saturday afternoon when one of the picture books, “When the Flower Blossoms”, was read out to them. Through the story of how a little girl took care of her potted plant, children were reminded the values of being a responsible person and caring for others.

Promoting integrity with AR technology

With the integration of augmented reality (AR) technology, reading is no longer limited to a physical book or e-book. Technology has given a new dimension to the overall reading experience.

To engage older children, the ICAC has recently launched a series of AR comic books, "A Parallel Universe without ICAC", incorporating interactive games and e-activities to attract readers. The series aims to disseminate integrity messages to children and teach them to treasure a clean society through a new reading experience.

By scanning the 10 AR codes in the comics, readers can see the 3D scenes extended from the story and embark on an adventure together with the "iTeen quartet" in a parallel universe without the ICAC, where corruption is rife.
