ICAC Commissioner Simon Peh Yun-lu today (March 17) called upon all staff members of the Commission to remain steadfast and dedicated to their anti-graft mission, and continue to contribute to the stability and prosperity of the city through cooperation to enhance the Hong Kong electoral system.

In response to media enquiries, an ICAC spokesperson confirmed that following an investigation into suspected corruption and fraud in relation to a property development project of small houses in Yuen Long, the commission recently mounted an operation codenamed “Silver Grass”, netting a total of 24 persons, including operators of a developer, small house applicants and middlemen.

Two former employees of a solicitors firm, charged by the ICAC, were today (March 11) respectively sentenced to 47 months and 30 months in jail at the District Court for defrauding two licensed money lenders of mortgage loans totalling $20 million and laundering part of the sums.

A man charged by the ICAC was today (March 10) sentenced to 100 hours of community service at the Eastern Magistrates’ Courts for defrauding an insurance company of damaged property claims and disclosing details of the ICAC’s investigation into the case.

The ICAC today (March 9) charged a manager of an insurance company and a down-line agent with fraud for allegedly deceiving the company into paying them commissions totalling over $130,000 by falsely representing that the down-line agent had handled three insurance policies.

A former manager of a government street cleansing contractor and her son were charged by the ICAC last Friday (March 5) with conspiracy to defraud the contractor of salary payments totalling over $240,000 by falsifying the son’s attendance records for two years.

Three persons, including an executive committee member and a member of a taxi association, charged by the ICAC, were today (March 5) sentenced to jail terms up to 11 months at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts for bribery in relation to the Information Technology Functional Constituency (ITFC) of the 2016 Legislative Council (LegCo) General Election.

A former manager of a private wet market was today (March 3) charged by the ICAC with accepting bribes totalling $34,000 from two tenants over stall leasing matters, and stealing rents and interest payments amounting to a total of over $193,000 from three other tenants.

A couple affected by a redevelopment project of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) is today (March 2) charged by the ICAC with offering a bribe of $2,000 to a URA officer in relation to their re-housing application.

The ICAC yesterday (March 1) charged an engineer of an air-conditioning contractor with fraud for concealing from and failing to disclose to his employer his financial interest in the maintenance orders worth totalling over $310,000 when sub-contracting them.
