In view of immense public concern arising from a press release titled “ICAC arrests 21 for alleged corruption over false concrete tests” issued yesterday (May 23), as well as public interest involved, the ICAC today (May 24) issues the following statement to avoid unnecessary speculations:

The ICAC has arrested two senior executives and 19 staff members of a contractor of the Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) for alleged corruption in relation to their submission of false concrete compression test reports.

Six persons appeared in the Tuen Mun Magistracy today (May 19) after being charged by the ICAC with conspiracy to pervert public justice in a criminal intimidation case, while one of them also faced a charge of possessing a dangerous drug.

A director of a metal products manufacturing company, charged by the ICAC, was today (May 16) sentenced to 10 weeks’ imprisonment at the West Kowloon Magistracy for offering a bribe of ,000 to an employee of a bank for assisting him in opening an account for his company.

A former vice president and a client of a bank appeared at the West Kowloon Magistracy today (May 12) after being charged by the ICAC with accepting and offering bribes of about HK$15,000 in total respectively in relation to the handling of credit facilities of two companies of the client, while the former vice president and his mother faced charges of disclosing the identity of persons under ICAC investigation.

The ICAC will conduct a household opinion survey to gauge the public’s attitude towards corruption as well as their views about the work of the anti-corruption agency.

A former assistant admissions officer of an international school and her boyfriend, charged by the ICAC, were today (May 11) convicted at the District Court of defrauding and attempting to defraud three parents of donations totalling $3.6 million in relation to the admission of their children to the school, and laundering the related crime proceeds respectively.

A freelance agent of two companies, charged by the ICAC, admitted at the District Court today (May 10) that he had offered illegal commissions totalling over $4.5 million to a then manager of a toy manufacturing firm to secure business.

Despite many difficulties and hurdles, graft fighters and law enforcers from different jurisdictions were taking positive action towards their common goal of ensuing that there were no safe havens for the corrupt to hide and enjoy their ill-gotten gains, said Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu, Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), at the closing ceremony of the ICAC International Seminar on Financial Investigation today (May 10).
