Three former and serving employees of a motor service company appeared in the Kwun Tong Magistracy today (Monday) after being charged by the ICAC with conspiracy to forge certificates of roadworthiness (CORs) for private cars and light goods vehicles.

The proprietor and a former merchandiser of a trading company appeared in the Kwun Tong Magistracy today (Friday) after being charged by the ICAC with defrauding bank loans totalling over $3.3 million and laundering those crime proceeds respectively.

A solicitor, charged by the ICAC, was today (Thursday) sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistracy after admitting that he had pocketed a legal fee of $24,000 belonging to a solicitors firm and deceived $3,000 from a client of the firm.

The Legislative Council (Legco)’s Select Committee on former ICAC Commissioner’s duty visits, entertainment, and bestowing and receipt of gifts released its report today following its public hearings held in January and March this year. The ICAC would like to express its appreciation to the Select Committee for supporting ICAC’s amendments to its Commission Standing Orders (CSO) so as to strengthen and further clarify the provisions relating to official duty visits, entertainment and bestowing of gifts.

A policyholder, charged by the ICAC, was today (Monday) sentenced to two years’ imprisonment at the District Court for having deceived medical insurance compensation totalling over $436,000 from eight authorised insurers by falsely representing that he had been hospitalised at a hospital in the Mainland during various periods due to four accidents.

A former sales manager of a school bus company, charged by the ICAC, was today (Thursday) sentenced to two years’ imprisonment at the District Court for using false documents to deceive over $460,000 from the company, and forging school chops and letterheads to apply for passenger service licences.

Two former football players of an athletic association have been charged by the ICAC today (Wednesday) for their alleged roles in fixing the results of two football matches, with a former deputy team manager of the association accused of illegal betting.

In the past year, the ICAC made strenuous efforts to enhance corporate governance and continued to discharge its statutory duty to fight corruption vigorously through the three-pronged approach of law enforcement, systemic prevention and community education, earning the trust and support of the public with hard work.

A director of a property development company, who was earlier extradited from the United States (US) to Hong Kong after being wanted by the ICAC, was today (Friday) sentenced to 27 months’ imprisonment at the District Court for offering a bribe of HK$2.3 million to a bank officer in relation to loan applications.

The ICAC will conduct a household opinion survey in the coming two months to gauge the views of the public on anti-corruption work in Hong Kong.
