An unemployed man and a proprietor of a decoration company appeared in the Kowloon City Magistracy today (Thursday) after being charged by the ICAC for their alleged roles in a fraud scam in relation to a public housing unit.

A former insurance consultant of a financial services company, charged by the ICAC, was today (Tuesday) sentenced to four weeks’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistracy after being convicted of attempting to mislead the ICAC by making false statements.

A former senior manager of a property agency, charged by the ICAC, was today (Friday) sentenced to six months’ imprisonment at the Eastern Magistracy for bribery and fraud in relation to the transaction of a commercial property worth over $40 million.

A former Secretary for Development (SDEV) and an Assistant Director of the Highways Department (HyD), charged by the ICAC, were today (Thursday) sentenced at the District Court for deceiving housing allowances totalling over $700,000.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) recognises and respects freedom of press, and always conducts investigations and gathers evidence in accordance with the law. In the course of evidence gathering, the ICAC may need to obtain materials required for the investigation through legal proceedings if necessary. Since the case involves journalistic materials, the ICAC has sought advice from the Department of Justice, and subsequent to the legal advice, made applications with the High Court pursuant to Section 84(1) and (2) of the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance.

A man has been charged by the ICAC with offering a bribe of over $46,000 to get the correct answers of a game show of now TV, with the man and his sister accused of defrauding the TV station of about $350,000 in cash prizes of the game show.

A woman, charged by the ICAC, was today (Monday) sentenced to two months’ imprisonment at the Kowloon City Magistracy after admitting vote-rigging at the 2011 Wong Tai Sin District Council (DC) Election (Lung Sing Constituency).

A former chairman of a mutual aid committee (MAC) at a public housing estate appeared at the Kwun Tong Magistracy today (Friday) after being charged by the ICAC with accepting 10 packs of cigarettes from a security guard in relation to the latter’s job posting.

In relation to the complaints received by the ICAC in late October 2012 against Mr Franklin Lam Fan-keung, a non-official member of the Executive Council, for alleged misconduct in public office and offering illicit advantages, the ICAC had completed its investigation and sought legal advice from the Department of Justice (DoJ). The DoJ decided that no prosecution would be instituted against the persons involved. The result of the investigation was reported to the independent Operations Review Committee which endorsed that no further investigative action needed to be taken. The ICAC has informed the complainants of the result of the investigation accordingly.

A Police Station Sergeant has been charged by the ICAC today (Monday) with soliciting and accepting advantages including a loan from one of his subordinates, and making and using false instruments in relation to a mortgage loan application for a land property.
