The ICAC today (February 27) charged a prisoner of Stanley Prison for allegedly offering a bribe of $500,000 to a public prosecutor of the Department of Justice (DoJ) to seek the latter’s assistance in interfering with the trial of another criminal case the prisoner faced.

Chairmen of the four independent advisory committees overseeing various aspects of ICAC’s work today (February 26) noted that through thick and thin in the past 50 years, the Commission remained committed to its anti-graft mission and together with different strata of the community, safeguarded Hong Kong’s rule of law and the core value of integrity. The achievement also demonstrated the advisory committees, a unique system of checks and balances in Hong Kong’s anti-corruption regime, was adequate and effective.

Around 600 distinguished guests from local and international communities gathered at the ICAC Building today (February 21) to witness the inauguration of the Hong Kong International Academy Against Corruption (the Academy), which marked a new chapter of Hong Kong’s anti-corruption work and the ICAC’s unwavering commitment to take the anti-corruption cause to new heights as the graft fighting organisation welcomed its golden jubilee.

Following ICAC’s operation “Green Grass” taken in May last year, neutralising a corruption syndicate in connection with football match-fixing and illegal gambling, the Commission charged three football players and a betting agent this morning (February 15) for allegedly bribing football players to rig the results of a number of matches involving three local football clubs participating in the Hong Kong Premier League (HK Premier League) and the First Division of Hong Kong (HK First Division) in two seasons between 2021 and 2023 so as to facilitate syndicate members to profit from illegal gambling.

The ICAC had earlier charged a then property officer of a property management company and a renovation contractor as a corruption investigation revealed that they had conspired together to deceive the Incorporated Owners (IO) of a private residential building in To Kwa Wan into awarding a water pipe replacement project to the contractor by using false quotations. The property officer was today (February 9) sentenced to four months’ imprisonment at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts.

A former assistant general manager of the advertising department of a newspaper company, earlier charged by the ICAC for soliciting bribes from subordinates, was yesterday (February 6) charged with five additional counts of bribery charges for accepting bribes of about $88,000 from two subordinates upon their receipt of commissions from the company for securing event sponsorships.

A director of a furniture company was charged by the ICAC yesterday (February 5) for allegedly offering a bribe of RMB5,000 to an employee of a bank for not terminating the corporate accounts of the company.

To mark the golden jubilee of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the Commission today (February 4) held the ICAC 50th Anniversary Running Gala, showcasing the organisation’s unwavering commitment to the anti-corruption mission and calling on the next generation to carry on the fight.

A former bank employee, charged by the ICAC, was today (February 2) sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment at the District Court for defrauding two clients of insurance premiums totalling over HK$820,000.

In recent years, the ICAC has taken a series of enforcement actions against solicitation and acceptance of illegal rebates from construction workers and launched a series of relevant publicity and education programmes. Two more former site team leaders of a sub-contractor of the Third Runway Project of the Hong Kong International Airport (Third Runway Project) were today (February 2) each sentenced to five months’ imprisonment at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts for accepting bribes from four bar-benders over their employment.
